BetterBev is a free environmental sustainability recognition program that helps craft beverage producers review their facility operations, identify process improvements, and reduce business costs. BetterBev representatives in your state offer the tools and support you need to succeed.
The program works with all interested parties, from beginners looking for simple tips to experts that want to investigate the latest green technologies. No matter where you are, the BetterBev program will help you take positive steps that meet your financial, operational, and strategic priorities.
Participating companies drive their continuous improvement by measuring and assessing waste generation, energy use, water consumption, and material inputs, such as raw materials, packaging, and cleaning products.
The BetterBev program uses the following criteria to review facility operations and generate technical recommendations.
BetterBev works with the Toxics Use Reduction Institute's Cleaning Laboratory at the University of Massachusetts Lowell to identify high-performing, cost-effective cleaning practices that reduce health and safety risks. Ask your BetterBev representative for more information.
“Black Pond Brews is excited to be an early participant in the BetterBev program for a number of reasons. We pride ourselves on actively trying to become more carbon neutral and have more of a positive effect on our environment and community, and this program lets customers know that. The BetterBev program also has and will help us to identify a number of other procedures and equipment that can help us to become even more environmentally friendly through things like CO2 recapture, better utility benchmarking, and using less toxic (but still highly effective) cleaning chemicals to name a few. We are proud to be part of this program and would encourage other breweries to join as well!”
“Working with the BetterBev Green Beverage Recognition program gave us insight into what we were already doing well and directed us down a path toward being even better stewards of the planet. The UMass Boston team helped us make a few easy, low-cost changes to decrease our environmental impact and identified some bigger changes that we are looking to implement in the future.”
“We’re grateful to Rob and the BetterBev Green Beverage Recognition program for the work they’ve done to make sustainability accessible for breweries. Understanding our limitations as a small business, the assessment and recommendations provided by Rob were clear, approachable, and outlined opportunities for us to continue to prioritize sustainability. We look forward to a greener future!”
